Can I Use Cleaning Vinegar For Cooking

NO.....it says right on the jug...not for food consumption. The acid concentration is much higher in this product. You could seriously blister your mouth and esphogus. Apple cider vinager is 5 percent, cleaning vinager can be 10 to 20 percent acid, or more. If you trash your esophagus you will be fed by a tube that goes in your nose and down past the burned areas. Or a button device that is put on your abdomen and connects to your gut. Not accessories you want to collect.

  • Yes, I use it when I hard-boil eggs, just about a tablespoon. Call Heinz at 1-800-255-5750, and ask for a booklet on the uses of white vinegar.

  • Cooking and cleaning vinegar have different strengths. Don't use cleaning vinegar for cooking.

  • Could you pour half a gallon of cleaning vinegar into a gallon jug, add a half gallon of water to the jug, and have 5% vinegar? I never heard of cleaning vinegar because I never thought of it. Btw, as soon as hubby leaves for the day, I'm going to vinegar-wash both our coffee pots (apple vinegar). Can't live without it. ☺️

  • I never knew there was a different white vinegar for cleaning or food! I use the white vinegar for dressing or whenever a recipe calls for it and for cleaning (coffee pots, dishwashe, etc. I also use it for killing weeds outside with that DIY recipe!

  • how i see it.:in my country you can buy 10% and 20% white vinegar in the grocery store and use it for cooking or cleaning..... vinegar is "vinegar", the percentage is important, yes you have to be careful with it. (i used to deal with the 80% one in the laboratory without any problems. ok, i didnt put a tabespoon of it in to my soup). but not if its because edible or not. if its a cleaning vinegar only for cleaning, it might contain something else too ...methanol wich is toxic, or i dont know what they would put in it. if you are not sure, dont eat it.

It depends on brand. Heinz is pure vinegar and can be used for cooking. Other brands have additives such as alcohol ethoxylate, butyl carbitol, citrus oil and preservatives which are definitely not for consumption. Check your labels!

  • The cleaning vinegar is much stronger than 5% routinely bought at grocery stores. If yu do decide to use it, pour the vinegar into the water, that way if you get splashed with anything it will be diluted, this is a basic rule of chemistry, always pour the concentrated into water.

No, I would not use it in cooking, just clean with it.

Cleaning vinegar is 20% acidic. Nope, dont do it.

  • Help. We accidentally infused cleaning vinegar into bacon we were smoking instead of regular vinegar. Any idea how to get it out????

I don't know where y'all are buying 10-20% cleaning vinegar, but Heinz cleaning vinegar is 6%. Says it right on the label. Also says safe for cooking.

  • i contacted heinz for a book on vinegar but thry dont have one however i spoke to a very patient nice young lady. cooking vinegar has 5% acidity and cleaning has 6%. You dont want to drink the 6% it will burn your esophagus.
